WHO are we looking for?

Saft America is looking for a Junior to Mid-Level Computer Engineer. In this position, you will contribute to the design and development of control systems for the next generation of lithium-ion batteries.

Our products make a difference in the industries of Space, Defense and Racing. Saft is HQ’ed in France, with 4,300 employees in 18 countries. Our manufacturing site in Cockeysville houses the research and development of Saft America’s Space and Defense Divisions.

What will you DO?

  • Hardware and software design and implementation of embedded solutions for control of lithium-ion battery systems.
  • You will be a key member of our Agile systems development team. We follow an innovative and rapid hardware development schedule -- averaging six weeks from design start to prototype test.
  • Hands-on development and integration of new systems, such as directed energy batteries for defense applications, and future development of solid-state batteries.
  • Programming of PC-based GUI tools to support customer evaluation, testing, and troubleshooting of batteries and battery system electronics.
  • Troubleshooting of system level software and hardware problems and new products. This will schematic layouts and design of mainly analog, but some digital, circuit boards.
  • Coordinating with vendors for sourcing materials and pricing.
  • Occasional interaction with clients for development meetings.

What experience do you NEED?

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering (or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, etc.).
  • Between 5-7 years of experience with embedded systems development.
  • Developing products utilizing microprocessors/microcontrollers, embedded systems, hardware design, software and design for electronics manufacturing.
  • Some experience in embedded hardware design for PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout.

What experience would be HELPFUL to have?

  • Experience in the development of battery systems / battery powered devices is not necessary.
  • Experience with C# programming.
  • Familiarity with multiple microcontrollers.

What TECHNOLOGY should you have used?

  • Well-versed in C/C++ programming.
  • PCB design tools, such as OrCAD Design Suite.
